CHICAGO, IL – Rev. James Dokos, a Greek Orthodox priest who has been charged with stealing more than $110,000
from a $1.2 million trust fund that he oversaw at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Milwaukee, WI, tentatively
reached a plea bargain with prosecutors on February 10, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Dokos was charged with spending the money on himself and on family members, and on other Annunciation officials, the
Tribune reported.
As TNH reported, Dokos was charged two years ago, after he had already departed from Annunciation to become protopresbyter at the Glenview, IL church Sts. Peter and Paul.
Dokos’ attorneys had attempted, unsuccessfully, to argue that the pending case was a violation of Dokos’ religious
freedom. The tentative plea deal will be brought before a judge on February 22, the Tribune wrote, which is one day before Dokos’ trial is set to begin.
