SYDNEY – His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia ordained to the Holy Episcopacy His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyeanea at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Sydney. Elpidios was recently elected Bishop of Kyanea by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to serve as auxiliary Bishop to Archbishop Makarios.
Addressing the newly ordained Bishop, Archbishop Makarios said among other things that, “from today you are contributing to the Apostolic succession, and along this new course you will preach the Holy Gospel.” The Archbishop added that “every human being is worthy of our love.”

Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea, in his address to Archbishop Makarios, said, “I personally believe that you, Your Eminence, will guide me. You will not only be a Spiritual Father to me but also a role model.”
Present at the ordination ceremony were bishops Seraphim of Sevastia, Ezekiel of Dervis, Iakovos of Militoupolis, Emilianos of Meloa, and Silouanos of Sinope. In addition, the Divine Liturgy was concelebrated by Metropolitans Ambrosios of Korea, Nektatios of Hong Kong, Konstantinos of Singapore, Myron of New Zealand, Ignatios of Madagascar, and Nathanael of Chicago, who visited Australia for the celebrations of the name day of Archbishop Makarios.
